Signs of aging – Skin aging in general

The visible signs of skin aging
Minimize the effects of aging
The first signs of aging start to appear at the age of 25 on the surface of the skin. We first observe the appearance of fine lines then, over time, wrinkles, as well as a loss of volume and density.

There are several causes of skin aging. While it is possible to modify and prevent some of them, others cannot be avoided. However, taking care of your skin allows you to have some control over these inevitable causes.

Understanding the effects of internal and external factors on skin structure and function can help you make the right treatment and prevention choices.

Signs & Symptoms

The visible signs of skin aging
General skin aging has three main manifestations. Each of them affects the appearance of the face differently.

Over time, the structure of the skin changes. Wrinkles are usually the first visible sign of this development.

Sagging of the face, which leads to sagging skin, is one of the signs of loss of volume.

When the structure of the skin is altered, the loss of density becomes visible and the skin often appears duller and thinner.
Wrinkles
The first visible signs of skin aging, fine lines, and wrinkles appear from the age of 25. They form on different areas of the face and are the most easily spotted signs of aging. Fine lines are the first to appear.

These small superficial wrinkles, generally visible at the outer corner of the eye, are also called expression lines or even crow’s feet. They can also appear on the cheeks.

On the forehead, wrinkles are characterized by horizontal lines caused by facial expressions and gain depth over time. The finer vertical lines lodged between the eyebrows are caused by the frowning of the latter.

Deeper wrinkles, called nasolabial folds, form between the nose and mouth. Linked to the sagging of the skin, these deep wrinkles are often accompanied by a loss of volume.

volume loss

Sometimes difficult to identify, loss of volume is expressed in different ways, including sagging skin and sagging facial contours. The expression “to have drawn features” is also used to refer to it. Unlike the loss of density or wrinkles, its effects transform the overall appearance of the face but are difficult to identify.

The most visible impact of the loss of volume and the slackening of the contours is at the level of the expression of the face: it sends back a negative, sad or anxious image. Expressions that can distort the perception of a person’s mood and attitude.

Loss of density

Common in postmenopausal women, the loss of density is manifested on the surface by a more fragile and thinner skin.

Unlike wrinkles or loss of volume, loss of density affects the entire face and is not limited to certain localized areas.

It is often associated with deeper wrinkles and is accompanied by loss of radiance and a duller complexion.

Causes & Triggers

Skin aging is not due to a single cause but to a set of endogenous and exogenous factors. Understanding them makes it possible to put in place a global approach to prevent this phenomenon.

The visible signs of skin aging
The signs of aging that appear on the surface are a reflection of the changes that occur in the different layers of the skin.

The layers of the epidermis

Due to slower cell turnover and reduced production of lipids on the surface of the skin, the skin is likely to be dry and rough. As we age, the epidermis becomes more sensitive to UV rays.

The healing capacity of the skin is reduced and a weakening of the immune function can lead to an increase in skin infections, as well as a slowing down of the skin’s ability to heal.

The layers of the dermis

From the age of 25, the production of collagen, one of the structural components of the skin, decreases by 1% each year. Associated with a decline in elastin, this phenomenon leads to the disorganization of the connective tissue of the skin. Its structure is then altered and wrinkles are likely to form.

Due to its loss of elasticity, the skin becomes predisposed to the alteration and rupture of blood capillaries. In addition, the blood supply to the skin decreases. This means that the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the surface of the skin is less efficient.

Treating signs of aging

In the following article, we will discuss the most important methods used to treat the signs of aging.

In recent years, ways to treat signs of aging have become the subject of interest and research in various fields of medicine, as the history of skincare goes back to ancient history when man was looking for the source of youth, man has always dreamed of finding a magic medicine that prevents or slows down the symptoms of aging at least.

Since the aging process is a complex and complex process of a series of defects and diseases, it can be studied and measured like any other disease that has symptoms that indicate that we are getting old and that the appearance of our face changes, aging, and needs care.

There are also several ways to do different treatments to protect the face from the symptoms of aging, such as:

  • Use of skin protection cosmetic products that come in all shapes, sizes, and quantities today, depending on our budget, and the type of care desired.
  • Continuously apply a moisturizing cream with a high degree of protection 15 times or more, and always all the time, especially before leaving the house.
  • The use of antioxidants and these materials can be obtained in the form of creams and ointments, or through proper nutrition, drinks, and foods rich in vitamins that contain antioxidants.
  • Maintain proper nutrition.
  • Drinking plenty of water reduces the need to take care of the face and treat it at frequent intervals and helps treat signs of aging. It is worth noting that a moisturizing cream for the skin can be based on preventing harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays from reaching our skin. It is important to always check if they contain Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA – Alpha Hydroxy Acids).

This compound can help in the shedding of dead skin cells and the production of new and vital skin cells, and it should be noted that drinking coffee and drinking alcohol leads to dry skin, so it is preferable to consume it in a limited manner.
